A new St X Man
I think I mentioned a while ago - here or somewhere else maybe, that our older son Nicholas (known as Nick to everyone except me) was applying to the local Jesuit high school, St Xavier. Well, he did apply, he studied for months and took the entrance test, and yesterday we found out he was accepted!
Nicholas was his typical low-key self, much like me. He called me at work to let me know; as a young man of few words he didn't say much but I could hear his smile through the phone. I wasn't there when my wife found out, but I'm sure she jumped up and down, shouted a bit, and then cried.
As for me, I am very, very proud of Nicholas. He did work for and pray about this, and while we provided support and guidance it was pretty much all up to him. And I am very happy he's going to a Jesuit high school - one of the finest schools around. We spent a good deal of time looking into the school and talking with friends who have boys there (it's an all-boys school), and we were very impressed.
So here's to Nicholas - a new St X Man!

Congratulations, Steve! Some parent moments just glow, don't they? Congrats to Nick too.

Congratulations to Nick. Funnily enough, with all the Jesuit news about the election etc, I had been wondering lately while out walking if your son had heard anything or not. Hope he really enjoys his high school years.

Congratulations! As you say, St. X is one of the finest high schools in Cincinnati, and it's also one of the treasures of my (Chicago) Province. You have reason to be proud, and I hope that Nicholas has a great experience there.

Hi Meg - Yes, glowing is a great way to describe it!
Hi Kiwi - It actually took a bit longer than we anticipated to get the results and get through the acceptance process; it was kind of nerve-racking for a while.
Joe - Thanks for that; he knows it's going to be hard work, but very good work, too. It's great to see him *want* that; the school seems to inspire that.

Congratulation to Nick and the rest of your family Steve. I’m sure that this will be a new and exiting adventure for all of you. With God’s help and the loving support that your family brings him, he should succeed. For what it’s worth, he’s already in my prayer. What do you mean that’s kind of scary! (lol!?)

Great news!
I will tell my housemate who is assigned to St. X next year to look out for him!

Hey guys - Thanks! It's a small world... He's excited, and a bit nervous, I think.
