Icons of the saints
I've put together a new header for the blog - a collection of icons painted by Fr William Hart McNichols S.J. They are painted in a Byzantine style, and I am grateful to Fr McNichols for giving me permission to use them. You can see more of his art at www.TaosTraditions.com.
The icons, from left to right:
St. Ignatius - Vision at the Chapel of La Storta
The Crucified Lord
Our Lady of Sorrows
Jesus Christ Extreme Humility
St Ignatius the Pilgrim
St. Aloysius Gonzaga, S.J.
Christ All Merciful
The Risen Lord
The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
Fr McNichols also has some other works available - collections of icons and other books.

Nice header on your blog! I need to put something togethe that is a bit more original.

Very nice header! I like it.
I saw in your header the icon of "Christ All Merciful". I have seen this icon many times before, but I never knew that this was the title of it. It is my favourite one.
What I like about icons is that the whole picture, in its every detail, looks to tell the story, give the background, of the main person represented. It fascinates me.

A beautiful header, Steve. I just love iconography. There's something very holy about it; in my opinion, it's the "crown jewel" of religious art.

David - That could be; I'm not familair enough with St Francis to know one way or the other.

I like the "new look", Steve. As far as "rituals", I long ago came to the conclusion that we all have some. We just don't refer to them by that term. My own bunch would gasp if horror if you suggested they operate service with a program; but, with or without a printed schedule of events, it's not all that hard to predict the order of things. The Latin reference on my last post, by the way, took place about 50 years ago. Much has changed since then, I'm sure, both with your bunch and with mine. Peace.......

Lovely!
BTW, many of these Icons are found at Catholic Greetings (http://www.catholicgreetings.org) and can be sent to others as e-cards.
Perhaps you should consider a permanent link of your header to either Fr. McNichols's site or to Catholic Greetings (or both) as a service to your visitors!

Thanks Brigid - I haven't found a way in Typepad to change the URL that gets attached to the header image. It seems to be hard-coded with my blog's URL. But, I did add a link to Fr McNichol's work in my 'Miscellany' section in the left column.
